News. European Fastener Distributor Conference 2015 in Berlin.
13 February 2015
EFDA will hold its triennial European Fastener Distributor Conference on 15 and16 April 2015 in Berlin. The conference is the central event for EFDA members to discuss major issues and developments regarding the fastener business and global trade developments in general. It is a good platform to make new and further develop existing contacts with representatives of leading fastener distributors from several European countries.
We are expecting guest speakers from our European, American and Asian partner organizations as well as a representative of the European Commission and a Brussels-based lawyer with reports on international trade issues.
The conference will be held together with the annual EFDA Assembly of Delegates meeting. EFDA’s German member association FDS will have its annual meeting the day after the conference.
Venue is the Grand Hyatt Berlin. The hotel is located in the Potsdamer Platz area near the Brandenburg Gate, right on the spot where the Berlin wall divided the city until 25 years ago, passing through of a vast and void territory in the city’s heart. Today the area is a vivid part of central Berlin frequented by many tourists and people working or living there. Is is an excellent place to come together for our European conference.
News. Expiry Review R591 on carbon fasteners from China
9 January 2015
Today EFDA submitted its reply to the final disclosure by the European Commission regarding Expiry Review R591 on the import of certain iron and steel fasteners from the People’s Republic of China. In its submission, the umbrella organization for European fastener distributors made clear that it does not object in principle to fair and appropriate trade defence measures on fasteners originating from the People’s Republic of China. European fastener importers and distributors maintain, however, that the duty levels applied by the Council by means of Regulation (EC) No 91/2009 were not appropriate to achieve this objective.
The European Commission had submitted to EFDA the final disclosure of the expiry review of anti-dumping measures applicable to imports of certain iron or steel fasteners originating in the PR China (R 591) on 15 December 2014. The Commission's proposal is to maintain the anti-dumping duties. As an interested party, EFDA took the opportunity to respond to the General Disclosure Document. Two companies represented by EFDA participated in the European Commission’s investigation as Union importers. EFDA had already submitted a response to the Commission at the initiation of the procedure, on 7 February 2014.
Despite EFDA’s deep concern that the original decision to impose very high anti-dumping duties has so far proven dysfunctional and that it would be perpetuated if the measures were maintained, European fastener distributors remain to be totally committed to a stronger engagement with the European Commission and will continue to seek equitable solutions to these issues.
